Episode Discussion 1x16: Heart of Darkness

Mary Margaret hires Mr. Gold as her attorney when Emma is forced to arrest her for the suspected murder of David's wife, Kathryn. Meanwhile, back in the fairytale land that was, Prince Charming sets out to stop a determined and unhinged Snow White, whose memory is still clouded by Rumplestiltskin's potion, from assassinating the Evil Queen.

(I wonder why characters are always saying true love's kiss will work and then it doesn't always. Is it meant to be some sort of critique of the classic fairy tale tropes?)

I loved tonight's episode and almost died when we learned what would happen if she actually used the bow and arrow from Rumple. <3

My favorite part was line for the episode was totally Rumple's though about his house being drafty. LOL.

I also think Emma's starting to believe in the book!!!! Thank god Henry found MM's master keys.

Though I can't help but wonder...If Mr. Gold is going to "invest" in Mary Margret's future again does that mean she'll be all badass in storybrooke? Or maybe there's more to his plan?

Remember what he said. "This will get you exactly what you need." The arrow was never meant to hit the queen. Snow needed to remember who she was, and she needed to remember James, even if Snow herself was unaware of this. By hitting James, it sparked the events that led her to getting her memory back.

'It always finds its target' was meant in a bigger picture sort of way.

I guess the writers may have intended that the memories were blurry but they didn't blur the images well enough to have us conclude this.

I loved this episode! It was so beautiful watching all the plots start to come together after all the set-up. I enjoyed much of the set-up too but I'm ready for things to happen now and happily the show is too. I have more thoughts at my journal (http://chloris.livejournal.com/485028.html) but here are a few points:

- That arrow was completely meant to hit Charming never the Queen. It always hits its target and its target is love.

- Rumpel is SUCH a chess player. He has everyone else's moves figured out before they have even thought about moving. I look forward to the Gold&Emma uneasy partnership.

- Finally Emma is at least starting to figure out something off!

- And Henry has someone who believes and can help him. \o/ The poor kid was floundering.

- David is annoying. Yes, he's supposed to be annoying but that doesn't make it any less annoying to watch. *pokes him*

- Charming is wonderful. We need more Charming and less David.

- And Red is AWESOME. That is all.

I don't know if anyone has said this already but I have a few things:

A. Rumple's "investment" into Snow/MM & Charming/David's future is his "love potion" that he made using Snow/David's hair. Meaning they are the epitome of true love and as long as they are in love his potion/spell works and he even said "if you can bottle love, you can do anything." That's his investment in them. His ultimate goal is himself, so he is "on Snow/David's side" so to speak as long as they hold what he needs which is the potion.

The arrow was always meant to hit Charming, so that the potion would work. They would fall back in love, yada yada yada. I LOVE Charming/Snow. They make a badass couple. MM/David on the other hand... they are so lame. MM is starting to get her Badass back but David just always makes me want to kick him in the face. Really? You suspect her because you saw what COULD have been a dream state of her with a black cloak and long black hair even though MM has SHORT hair. Idiot!

And how does August aka The stranger know the book is real?!? Why does he want Emma to believe so bad?? Does he know something we don't? The ending perhaps? Did he write the stories? So many questions around this character! I love him!

So it is suffice to say that Kathryn is truly dead now? I really sorta liked her character there at the end. Plus, what about her and (what was her prince's name again?)

I just saw the Hulu interview with the creators and some of the cast (the main people) and they ruled out that theory. (But they totally thought it was an awesome theory).

That theory was disturbing, considering how August was flirting with Emma, Henry's mother! I'm glad it's been debunked.
