Fun facts!!

"One Little Tear" is a rendition of the "Rapunzel" fairy tale with Rapunzel, Dame Gothel and Rapunzel's children. It is also a rendition of the "Cinderella" fairy tale as Rapunzel is also the wicked stepmother from the fairy tale, with Cinderella, the evil stepsisters, and Cinderella's mother and father.

Lucy's ballet studio is called the Red Shoe Ballet, a reference to "The Red Shoes," a fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen, about a girl forced to dance continually in her red shoes.

Victoria Belfrey uses a tear to heal someone, just like her counterpart, Rapunzel, does in the fairy tale.

Fun fact: Anna Cathcart, who plays Tween Drizella in this episode, played the role of Drizella's daughter, Dizzy Tremaine, in Descendants 2.

Henry mentions how Alice drugged and imprisoned him, referring to events in "Hyperion Heights." He also introduces Cinderella to her as "Alice from Wonderland… and other places," which references how Alice described herself to him in the same episode.

Hook had a baby with Gothel, who grew up to be Alice, in "Eloise Gardener."

How Alice escaped from the tower is revealed in "The Girl in the Tower."

"Pretty in Blue" is a reference to the 1986 film Pretty in Pink, a movie about a poor girl who falls in love with a rich boy, bridging the gap between social classes and culminating in a dance(ball); a parallel to the "Cinderella" story. Also, in Disney's Cinderella, the titular character dons a blue gown for the royal ball; in this episode, Jacinda wears a blue dress for her dinner at an upscale restaurant with Nick Branson.

Pretty in Pink was written by John Hughes. Cinderella's love interest Henry Mills loves John Hughes movies, something that is touched upon in the Season Six episode "I'll Be Your Mirror," and "Wake Up Call" and "Sisterhood."

The lullaby which Wish Hook sings, first to locate the golden flower and later to his newborn daughter (the same song his mother used to sing to him and his brother), is "She Moved Through the Fair," a traditional Irish folk song.

REUSED PROPS: A statue of a griffin can be seen in Gothel's garden. The same statue, painted in a different color, can be seen on top of the grave that Hook, Emma and Mary Margaret are hiding behind in the Season Five episode "Her Handsome Hero," and among the gargoyles that the children are throwing bottles at on Pleasure Island in the Season Six episode "Murder Most Foul."

Goofs: After Henry tells Regina that she was the first person who loved him, the scene becomes flipped. This is evident due to the fact Regina's cape was draped over her left shoulder, but in the following shot, it is on her right.

The title of this episode is a reference to the short story of the same name by Argentine writer and poet Jorge Luis Borges.
As she is a fan of the story, Brigitte Hales suggested this title for the episode to David H. Goodman, who loved the idea.
