About "selfless, brave, and true"...

One thing still bugs me about Selfless, Brave, and True...it was a good idea, but...
August's plan was...what?, to run out of the sheriff's office and try to find Emma and the others, all before he finished turning back into wood?
(what would've happened if they had come across him too late, lying on the ground, a puppet once more? would anyone have thought to hit the reset, if he hadn't been able to say any of the warning?)
I guess I'm just confused why August didn't write down "Beware of Tamara" or something to that effect before looking for everyone.

As for Snow's trickery...also that time she tricked Regina into killing Cora. (Which I thought was an awesome moment for her.)
