This being the second episode of the first season of Once Upon A Time.

All things considered it pretty much is the second half of the pilot since a lot of the set up for what is to come is here.

As Sidney Glass would say

1. Did you see this live or was it later?

2.What do you remember most about the episode?

3.Did you find anything surprising when you rewatched it? Like “Oh that’s where they set that up” or “I had forgotten that ______ happened here”

4. What did you think of Maleficent? And the interaction between Regina and her?

5. What did you think of the Regina/Rumple Scene and the Regina/Gold scene?

6.Do you think at the end that Regina suspects that Gold has broken the cage around his memories?

7. They were still setting up Storybrooke, in the rewatch did you recognize more characters than you did originally?

8. Do you have any questions for the group?

Discussion is the spice of life so go forth and do so.

1. Did you see this live or was it later?
I watched it sort of live...I recorded it and then about 8:20 started to watch so I could zap through the commercials.

2.What do you remember most about the episode?
Regina taking her father's heart to initiate the curse.

3.Did you find anything surprising when you rewatched it? Like “Oh that’s where they set that up” or “I had forgotten that ______ happened here”
Watching it again, knowing what I know now, I wondered why Maleficent didn't just transform into a dragon to stop Regina from taking the curse. But, since Rumple created the curse, I knew Regina was destined to get it.

4. What did you think of Maleficent? And the interaction between Regina and her?
I felt sorry for both of them because they were both so consumed with revenge that they only had each other as friends, or rather frenemies. I also thought Maleficent came off rather weak. Considering the character scared the ever loving shit out of me in the Disney movie, I was disappointed.

5. What did you think of the Regina/Rumple Scene and the Regina/Gold scene? Good old Rumple. He built in so many little loopholes for himself in that curse. I love that all he had to say was "please" to get Regina to stop.

6.Do you think at the end that Regina suspects that Gold has broken the cage around his memories?
I think she suspected it the moment he said please and she was compelled to stop.

7. They were still setting up Storybrooke, in the rewatch did you recognize more characters than you did originally?
I did realize the woman with the sewn eyes was a seer but that's pretty much it. I tend to get so focused on the story that I miss little things.

8. Do you have any questions for the group?
Why did Rumple require the sacrifice of the thing (or person) loved most to enact the curse? Because he had given up Bae to keep his power? This is something that always nags at me when I watch bits about how the curse was enacted; especially after the winter finale of S3. Regina had to give up Henry to stop the curse and save everyone. Sacrifice and True Love seem to be major themes in this show, especially for my poor bb, Regina.

I think it simply comes down to the shows most common saying "all magic comes with a price". Since we are told on a number of occasions this curse is the most powerful dark curse the inhabitants of the enchanted forest have ever seen it always made sense to me that the price was so high.

Plus it has always made a poetic kind of sense to me that with true love (both familal (Henry & Emma) and romantic (Snow and Charming) being the most powerful light magic we know of in the show, that it takes its polar opposite (the destruction of that love) to enact the most powerful dark magic we encounter.
