Date: 2014-05-22 01:15 pm (UTC)All they did know is that they found themselves sitting in a muddy meadow waiting to see what happens next.
The feeling of the earth moving preceded the sound of the persistent pounding.
They looked to the forest path on the right to see Charming leave the woods on his horse quickly followed by Philip and Thomas on their steeds. Thomas took the lead but Philip managed to pull ahead of them both and cross the finish line first.
He turned to the other men and said, “Told you so.”

Date: 2014-05-23 04:17 am (UTC)The sky and forest stretch before them in endless miles of lush green and bright blue. The birds are singing; for the first time in a long time, she feels like joining them in their song. The dawning Spring is so beautiful that she can almost forget the evil Queen who still wants her dead.
Almost, but the fighter within her will not quiet. With each step, she's checking the shadows for any sign of enemies waiting to ambush them. Throughout each animal's song, she's listening for the telltale creak or snap of a twig underneath her boot. She hears the horses, her fiance, and her own breathing, all slightly labored, but constantly, she's listening for the sound of another's breath. The Queen could strike at any time, and that's something Snow will never forget.
Then, suddenly, she notices that Charming is no longer keeping a perfect match with his horse's gait to hers. His stallion has pulled a nose ahead before she asks him, one brow quirked, "What are you doing?" Her lips toy with the idea of a grin. "Trying to race me?"
Knowing well the thoughts running through her mind, he winks at her. "Who said I was trying?" With a shout to his horse, man and stallion pull ahead of her.
Snow watches them go for a moment, shaking her hooded head, but then she stops and grins. A snap of her reins, and she's flying down the trail. She shoots pass the males like an arrow out of a bow. She doesn't realize that Charming slows to watch her run, his own grin growing.
He only gives her a minute, and then he's chasing beside her. She shouts to her horse, urging her into a full run. Charming knows he can not catch her, let alone match her, when she's running wild and free, but she is still his True Love to claim. He pulls his horse just short of hers and leaps. The horses run on without them as they hit the ground to the side of the path and roll.
Pine needles catch at their clothes. Dirt and mud mar their colors. Leaves and grass tango in their hair. But neither notices. They only have eyes for each other, and finally, he has her thinking about something besides the Queen.
She gazes up at him when they stop, having hit the trunk of a tree, but she doesn't quite smile. Her expression is more of a smirk as she teases, "Charming."
"You bet." He can barely keep from laughing as he grins widely down at her. "That's why you love me."
"Hmm." Her fingers hook into his collar. "That's only one of your merits," she says while pulling him down.
He goes willingly, capturing the lips that are already rightfully his with his own hot and eager mouth, and doesn't cease kissing her even when she turns him onto his back. The day is beautiful, and it is all theirs, without thought or presence of the Queen, as they will always be each other's.
The End
Race Day
Date: 2014-05-23 01:27 pm (UTC)“So how does this work exactly?” Henry asked Regina. “Are you guys racing for the pinks?”
“I have no idea what that means.” Regina said. “We are racing to see who is the fastest.”
“Emma said I should bet on the rider I think will win but that is going to be kinda hard since I love you and Grandpa.”
Regina smiled she walked to the front of the stall and caressed his cheek. “I love you too, Henry. You don’t have to bet but just have fun. I have to get ready you need to find Emma and get a seat.”
“I will.” Henry reached up and gave Regina a kiss on her cheek. “For luck.”
“Thank you. Here is Emma now.” Regina said as she waved the younger woman over.
“Hey Kid, Mary Margaret is holding our seats.” Emma said.
“Miss Swan what does ‘racing for the pinks’ mean?” Regina asked.
Emma laughed. “It’s really something that happens in illegal drag racing. The winner gets the title to the loser’s car.”
“Why would the winner want the loser’s car if their car is faster?” Regina scowled. “And how does he know about illegal drag racing?”
Emma laughed. “I don’t know. Come on Henry. We need to get to the stands. Good luck Regina.”
“Thank you Miss Swan.” Regina patted her horse as she watched them walk away. “Don’t worry sweetie. Nobody is going to take you from me, especially some pompous fake prince.”

note: Robin, Regina and Roland spend an evening together.
Regina couldn’t remember laughing so hard in her life; side-splitting, out of breath, can’t get a word out, dropping to the floor laughter.
It had started innocently enough. Robin in all his inventiveness had fashioned up an old broom as a make-believe horse for Roland. The little one neighed as he tramped around Regina’s normally immaculate living room. It was anything but that tonight with pillows scattered hither thither and blankets strung between her designer chairs as a make-shift barn.
It hadn’t taken long for the four year old to ask her sweetly, “Will you play with me?” Regina couldn’t say no to the dimpled cherub face looking up at her eagerly; his big brown eyes full of hopefulness.
“You have a friend for life now,” Robin said smiling as the boy waited intently for Regina to join him. Once Robin created a similar steed, Regina began galloping around her living room after the boy with Robin laughing boisterously at them from the couch. Periodically he’d toss a pillow at her to throw her off balance as she happily chased his son around the room.
“Hey, stop that. No fair.” She giggled as she chastised him, but kept on galloping. “You could help me catch this little one.” She said breathlessly as she rounded the coffee table.
With that challenge issued Robin jumped up as they galloped past and grabbed them both. They all tumbled down into a heap on top of the pillows laughing so hard they could barely catch their breath.
As their voices slowly returned, Regina sighed and leaned against Robin. “That was fun.”
“It certainly was.” Robin chuckled as he watched Roland put his head down suddenly exhausted. “I think it’s time for bed little one,” Robin said as he gathered up his tuckered out boy. He gave Regina a quick peck on the cheek. “I’ll be right back.”
Regina smiled at the two of them disappearing out of sight. She could hear Robin whispering what a wonderful day they’d had and how much fun they’d have tomorrow and every day together.
Her heart felt like it might burst. If she’d learned anything from this man, it was what true joy felt like. She knew she’d been given a gift that she could treasure always for it was forever etched in her heart.
As she waited for Robin to return, she looked around her disheveled living room and had to smile. The room was finally living up to its name.
