Does Rumplestilskin know Emma is the saviour (I tend to think so)?  And if he does, did he bring Henry there on purpose to Regina, knowing it would eventually lead to Emma coming to Storeybrook?

I can't help but wonder if he wants the curse to be broken so that he has his magic again.

I think it's so difficult to know either/or as there's certainly signs in both directions. In the pilot, for example, when he first meets Emma, he repeats her name in such an "I know you" kind of voice.

I don't and I won't believe that Henry being there is an accident, whether Gold knows of the significance or not!

I love the questions OUAT poses!

Yes he does

Fear not, for I can ease your mind. But its going to cost you something in return...
The queen has created a powerful curse and its coming. Soon you will all be in a prison, just like me, only worse. Your prison, all of our prisons, will be time and time will stop and we will be trapped. Someplace horrible where everything we hold dear, everything we love will be ripped from us while we suffer for all eternity while the Queen celebrates Victorious at last. No more happy endings.
We can't do anything, that little thing growing inside your belly. that infant is our only hope, get that child to safety. Get the child to safety and on its 28th birthday, the child will return. The child will find you and the final battle will begin.

Episode One.

It's why he wanted her name. He could forsee some, but not all its why he knew it was a girl but not the name. So he could later find her. And he would keep tabs on her, find out she had a child, would take said child to Storybrooke to bring her "home"

Ooh, great catch! I've been trying to figure out why he wanted to know her name. I'm still confused as to how much he knows versus how much Regina knows. I love this show so freaking much.

I'm pretty sure he knows all of it. He has a forsight and given how he was aligning things in both worlds, he knows what needs to happen.

Yes, but when he is dealing with the evil queen in the dungeon, they both acknowledge that he won't remember their deal or anything that happened before once the curse was fulfilled. Was that, then, a lie?

Yes. It has to be because at this point he made references that he fully knows about both worlds. He says as Rumple "this world and the next" to Ella and as Gold to Regina "to which deal are you refering?" and he questioned her about Henry's name, knowing that was her fathers name, just to push her buttons.

That's just how I take it.

I think he may have had an idea of what would happen in the curse world, either because of his precognitive ability or because he had a large hand in designing the curse. Or both. But I think he may have actually forgotten all of that when the curse actually was enacted. It's hard to say because we never actually see him until Emma comes onto the scene and at that point, things have started changing. My personal theory is that knowing Emma's name gives him the power to know who she is (her name is the same in both worlds, unlike everybody else) and from knowing who SHE is, he can start to place everything else together, even if he doesn't actually remember everything.

Of course, the show will likely give us a different explanation eventually.

That doesn't explain Henry though.

Yeah.

I mean, it could be that he actually didn't know exactly what he was doing when he did that and that it's just fated that Emma will come on her 28th birthday, so it's fated that the kid Gold brings in from outside is her kid. He knew it would happen before he became Mr. Gold but that doesn't necessarily mean he was consciously following the plan as Mr. Gold.

Still, it does seem like a big coincidence that he is the one who selected Henry, so it does seem likely that he did know what he was doing and that he did remember everything the whole time. I don't know. I think both theories have merit. And we'll find out soon enough which way the show meant it to be.

He certainly seems to know more about the town than the other residents, and thus has an inkling that Emma is important in some way. And Henry can't have been a coincidence - in fact, given the way time passes in Storybrooke Mr. Gold would have been making impossible changes long before Emma arrived.

For me the question resolves more to "What is Rumpels'/Mr. Go;d's" endgame? He was playing both sides of the curse, indicating to me that he, at least, is actually looking for a way out of the Fairy Tale land. He's a trickster character with power, but given his requests from Regina and his desire to know Emma's name, what he's really after is going to be far and away from what we expect.

If he's trying to save Storybrooke, I don't understand his motivation. Back in fairytale land, he was in jail; here, he's powerful, so I don't know why he'd want to break the curse and go back to the way things were. But he always seems to have an ulterior motive, and I'm sure he knows what he's doing better than I do xD

I think that he thinks he can get back to the fairytale world with power. If he helps the good guys get their lives back, they'll be in debt to him and make his life in their world better / make him more powerful.

Basically, I think he helped the queen ruin everybody's lives just so he could then save everybody and be rewarded for it.

Possibly.

That makes sense.

I wouldn't be surprised if Robert Carlyle got Emmy-nominated. Most of the performers are excellent, but he's giving the kind of performance that they tend to love to shower with awards.

I think he knows but Regina thought he didn't remember, hence her face when Mr. Gold said "please"

I really love Rumples as a villain, I can't wait to see how this all works out.
