Here are my discussion Questions for Welcome to Storybrooke!

1. Second verse same as the first. We now have had our first look at pre-Emma Storybrooke. And it looks A LOT like the one we know from the pilot. It was mostly as I expected though with even more of a Groundhog day effect. Not completely the same but still mostly the same with small variations. How did Regina not go even more mad than she is after 28 years of this? And can anyone doubt that Graham had no free will in Storybrooke? They were all written into their roles.

2. She did get bored quicker than I thought though! It took what, two or three days? She did retain her own free will so who wants to see another flashback at some point that is of her trolling everyone?

3. In my opinion this season has tried to make it clear that Rumpelstiltskin did lose his memory with everyone else. (Or at least establish that he did in fact have Storybrooke memories hence the need for the scarf and potion.) Did his scene in this episode show a man without his FTL memories or not? He seemed to have a much softer/more unguarded look in his eyes and no hint of a smirk.

4. And our first look at the Storybrooke barrier! No one EVER came to Storybrooke since NO ONE could ever see it! Unless they were from FTL stock apparently. When Henry said no one ever came to town he wasn't exaggerating. How could even a delivery truck come to town if no one could see it? Unless Regina was somehow hiding the town when Owen came looking, bringing it from 'can only find if need be' to 'completely invisible.' However I do think it answers the question of whether Storybrooke is a recognized town in Maine. It is not.

5. First Hansel and Gretel. Then Owen. And then Henry. I guess she did learn. The third time she made sure there was no family to deal with. Also, knowing what we know of cursed Storybrooke now, I guess this means that the reason she adopted Henry of all the children in the world was because he was the only the one she could adopt? If outsiders can't find Storybrooke, as seems likely, then it would have to be Henry. (And whatever FTL third party who has been arranging things to bring him.)

6. Do you think Kurt (Owen's father) is still alive? And, if alive, is he still sane? He would have been a prisoner for 30 years if he survived. Not a fate I would wish on anyone.

7. What do you think is Owen's purpose in town? Besides finding out what happened to his father of course.

8. Regina found that curse in her mother's clothing. Was that what Cora planned to do with Regina if Regina hadn't come around and forgiven her? And whose heart would be the person Cora most hated? Rumpelstiltskin perhaps? She loved him but hated him too.

9. So, cursing Cora's heart caused Snow's heart to become blackened. Or least to start the process. She has committed crimes and harmed others in the past but apparently kept her perfectly red heart. What is the difference here? Intent (vengeance)? Use of black magic? The cold and calculated way she fooled Regina?

that scene confused me, because Snow's heart looked just like Graham's and Aurora's and everyone else who has had their heart pulled out...and then the blackness began to spread across Snow's heart.

is it only noticable because this is (we're told) Snow's first foray into Darkness?
