In In The Name Of The Brother, according to David Anders, the show creators were originally planning to explore a relationship between Ruby and Dr. Whale, but the plans were scrapped when Meghan Ory left the cast at the end of the second season, to focus on her new show Intelligence.

I didn't like Whale much so I'm kind of glad this didn't happen... but I was sad when Ruby was off the show. :(

I liked David Anders much better as Blaine on iZombie. It made me very sad when Ruby was no longer on. I loved her.

I think the characters had interesting chemistry and I would have loved to see more of them together.

Agreed. I think Ruby would have been a good influence on Whale.

I was glad David Anders moved on to iZombie. He was so good as Blaine.

I don't watch zombie stuff, and I couldn't even make myself for him...but I'm glad he got a steady job
