Wondering

I was wondering why none of any of the Government agencies have noticed Storybrook. I mean a whole town suddenly appears out of no where , time stands still in it, no one ages, a girl is pregnant for 28 years and no one notices. Surely there must be a file on Storybrook somewhere.
What I am proposing is a prompt as well as a discussion about this topic.
For the prompt, something about the CIA, FBI, or whatever knowing about Storybrook and what they are doing about it.
For the discussion, do you think the Government knows about Storybrook, and if so what do you think they are doing about it?
Thank you.

Well, because magic. >.>

My theory is that because of the really complex curse placed on it, Storybrooke exists in some parallel dimension that occupies the same space as a town on Earth, but is hidden to non-fairytale characters (except Emma, but she's still linked to fairytale-land, since her parents are from there). I mean, Storybrooke characters are physically incapable of leaving the town, which is probably because they, as physical beings, don't exist outside of it.

Kind of like "Brigadoon." :-)

This.

There are, shall we say, many holes in this plot. Most of which can be hand-waved by “magic”, some of which can’t. I think “the curse makes people not question things” is fairly easily hand-waved without any further explanation, though.

I would think that, simplistically, the curse protects Storybrooke. I assume that people can even pass through, just so long as it's just their INTENTION to pass through and then be on their way. No one moves there from the outside world because I would imagine they have no inclination to do so. The curse keeps the town shrouded. So no government agencies would find it unusual in any way, etc.

I mean, it seems like a big part of the functioning of the spell is that nobody realizes that there is a spell. Even those who have cause to be reminded just take it all in stride. Surely Mary Margaret would have, sometime in 28 years, commented on the fact that Henry was the only one of her students moving up through the grades? But she doesn't notice it. It seems pretty standard of an idea for any fantasy story involving a glamour of some sort. Storybrooke's essential nature is to be so unremarkable that nobody ever remarks upon it. Nobody says something weird is happening, nobody on the outside has cause to move there, no one on the inside has cause to move out, and everything stays the same. Until Emma comes, and starts pulling at the threads at the edges.

So no, I don't think any state authorities are paying attention to it. I think they just see the county and the name Storybrooke on the map and maybe the voting/representation districts, and everyone's eyes just skim across it, like they're supposed to.

I agree...very Brigadoon like, the curse draws a magical "veil" over Storybrooke for outsiders, just as it does for the residents. Emma was "allowed" in because she's not really an outsider, being Snow & James' daughter. August W. Booth is probably also connected in some way to Storybrooke and the enchanted land.

I have to agree with everyone here about 'Brigadoon,' the curse and how it effects its residents and 'strangers.'

It makes perfect sense actually. I haven't seen that movie in ages, but I do remember the premise.

I was thinking about the practicalities, food and supplies, power and such. So the curse must have this effect that when people interact with Storybrooke, i.e. the grocer orders food, gas is delivered, Mr. Gold somehow got Henry from wherever he was, these interactions get "forgotten" by people outside of town. If someone, say a delivery person comes into town, he does his business, and leaves, and he also leaves the memory of Storybrooke at the town limits.

I've been trying to spot the cars in town, they all appear to be older, are they all at least 28 years old?
