Red Handed Questions
Mar. 14th, 2012 08:48 pmI have my discussion questions for Red Handed.
Excellent episode and lots of things happened in this one.
1. Who called Red as the Big Bad Wolf? I know I didn't and I think they did a good job of confusing the issue on who was the wolf until the reveal. And I certainly didn't think they would have her eat Peter. (Though that I should have realized since she had talked about losing love.)
2. Why didn't Granny TELL Red, especially after she ate several townspeople? Actually why not before since then Red doesn't have to carry the guilt of killing anyone? I'd say that knowing you ate people is more of burden than knowing you are a werewolf.
3. Of course the meta reason she didn't tell is to carry the metaphor through the whole plot relating werewolfism to female sexuality. I thought it worked on that level even though it wasn't terribly subtle. There were times I thought I was watching a Buffy episode. (And I like Buffy.)
4. Who else wanted Ruby to continue working with Emma a bit longer? Ruby could have quit the diner a few episodes ago, interwoven the plots a bit more, and forestalled the questions on who is calling Emma from the station before going back this episode. Emma could really use a deputy or at least a dispatcher.
5. Ruby channeling her inner Red was wonderful and I loved how she became more Red-like as the episode progressed. Maybe instead of kissing everyone, Emma simply needs to give each townsperson a pep talk and take even a brief personal interest in them. Though kissing everyone would be good too.
6. David. What was he doing wandering about looking for someone or something? Why was he so spacey? My theory is that his real memories are trying to get out. Perhaps tacked-on, late model curse memories aren't as strong as original flavor ones? One thing I don't think happened is that Regina took his heart, simply because I don't think Regina can do that in Storybrooke. Squeeze previously taken hearts: yes. Take new ones: no. Though I could be wrong, we haven't seen any evidence of her using new magic so far.
7. Regina didn't have much to do here besides show up and yell at Emma for bothering David which seriously makes me wonder what she is up to. Why appear to frame David with phone records last week while defending his innocence this week? Maybe she needed a little time to properly frame Mary Margaret and wanted the attention on David as she did it?
8. How did Mary Margaret's fingerprints get on the inside of that box? We know she didn't put the heart there so I'm thinking it was probably a box that Snow had before she ran and Regina kept it. Or, as Regina has keys to the whole town, it would be easy for her to go into the apartment and get a box while Mary Margaret is working.
9. Do you think David will support Mary Margaret even with the evidence against her or will he desert her? I'm not sure. On one hand, there are strong feelings of true love pulling them together, and, on the other, curse.
10. And the heart. I don't think it's Kathryn's heart since that is the most obvious choice. I also don't think it's the heart of anyone who is currently alive since those hearts don't look like real hearts. Even if they don't glow when Regina isn't holding them, they still look like metaphorical representations of hearts without the blood and arteries. But we know Regina is happy to add real hearts of dead people to her collection so I'm betting that it is one of those. (Or maybe Graham's heart - she squeezed his metaphorical heart to dust but that doesn't mean his real heart wasn't still there and mostly undamaged.)
11. Which leaves the question of why bury it by the toll bridge and would Regina expect Emma to be able find it without Ruby's help?
