i just saw Skin Deep...


* Given how Rumplestiltskin became the Dark One, I suspect a kiss isn't a cure...but something else.

* Interesting twist at the end of the episode. But for all we know, Gold and Regina are only aware of their enchanted identities because of Henry's machinations...he wanted the curse broken, and, (to quote Mortal Kombat), It Has Begun.

* So Belle's still there? interesting. and useful. (kinda thought the psych ward/sanitarium would be further from the town)

My theories:

By killing the Dark One, Rumplestiltskin became a monster, a 'beast' if you will. True love's kiss can break any curse so who knows, maybe it was the way to end the curse once and for all where as the dagger is just the way to kill the current Dark One in order to gain power for yourself.

Regina has always been aware of her identity as the Queen because she enancted the curse. Rumplestiltskin created the curse so most assume that he has a failsafe to allow him to keep his memories. Remember, Regina/Queen still had to obey his wishes from that deal (the riches, estate and the please thing)

I don't think Belle ever died in the fairy tale world. I think the Queen wanted to hurt Rumplestiltskin and she knew this would work.

I'd reply with my theory, but I'm using it for a Big Bang at the moment - could I ask you to beta it when it's ready for that?

the riches and estate could've been built into the spell, a pre-programmed outcome.

I figured the "please" was more subconcious...like the cliche "cluck like a chicken whenever you hear this word" of hynotism.

the show may have addressed this already, or it may be a non-entity -- does anyone know if the 'please' is something that can be used with impunity, or is there any sort of limit to how often it can be used without consequence? the times I remember gold using it appear comparatively flippant but also carry this charged undercurrent of reminder/warning to regina.

twice in Skin Deep, and once when Emma chopped lots of branches off Regina's tree.

...and each time Gold said please, Regina froze, and her eyes glazed over briefly, before she did whatever he had asked. that's why I don't think it's a concious choice.

oh, I mean with impunity for gold -- there's that whole 'magic comes with a price,' and I'm not sure if it would have consequences for him. I'd love to know what would happen to regina if she tried to resist, though.

I think True Love's Kiss is the cure for his curse (and being the Dark One is in fact a curse), otherwise Rumpel wouldn't have reacted the way he did. He knows what can break the curse/get rid of his powers.
