This is so interesting to me now. Originally, Regina thought it would make her happy to "punish" Snow and all the others by taking them to Storybrooke. She really thought that would be her happy ending. It turned out she was right. That is her happy ending. She has a family and friends who love her and accept her for who she is. That was all she ever really wanted and she got it.
