lucyskyx, hughville and I have been discussing a couple of issues in the comm and this one we've decided needs to be up to all of you. So if you would, please take a second to answer.
I answered yes, but I wanted to add clarification to my vote: after a week, new characters shouldn't be spoilery since our spoiler policy is that a week after an episode airs it's no longer a spoiler. Future characters, however, should be spoilery until a week after their initial appearance.
Full disclosure: I am one of the biggest spoiler-phobes ever. I don't even read episode descriptions online. The closest I get to a spoiler is the "Next week on Show X" promo.
So, yes, anyone we haven't seen on the screen yet should be a spoiler.
Very recently added characters I think should be subject to the comm policy of waiting a week.
The current spoiler policy seems ridiculous. Telling people they can't mention the name Belle in their fic headers is absurd. Especially when at least one of them took it out but STILL has a Rumpel/Belle icon on that particular post. One person who commented above that waiting a week is a good policy is also using a Rumpel/Belle icon on that very comment, which seems to contradict their point.
Knowing a character is in an episode that already aired shouldn't be a spoiler. 99% of what's been posted at this comm since Sunday has been about the ep that aired on Sunday. I'm just wondering why anyone would even come here if they wanted to stay 100% spoiler free, including the characters who appeared in the ep. I know I'd steer clear if that was me.
I'm not saying "Stay off the internet," to the spoilerphobes, but more, the episode already aired several days ago, so you will see mentions of characters from that episode and possibly icons. Read the comm at your own risk. Detailed descriptions of the ep should def be behind a cut. Mentions of characters that appeared? I don't think so. Certainly seems it would make the mods job easier if they didn't have to issue a smackdown every time someone writes a fic about the previous Sunday ep's guest characters.

Date: 2012-02-14 10:54 pm (UTC)Including recently added would be good as everyone isn't able to watch the episode when it's aired.
Agreed that a week after an episode has aired it should be okay for the character to be not classed as a spoiler, in line with the spoiler policy.
