Episode Discussion 1x12: Skin Deep

After Mr. Gold's house is robbed, Emma keeps a close eye on him when it looks like he wants to track down the criminal and dole out some vigilante justice as payback, and Valentine's Day finds Mary Margaret, Ruby and Ashley having a girls' night out. Meanwhile, in the fairytale land that was, Belle agrees to a fateful deal to give up her freedom in order to save her town from the horrors of the Ogre war.

I disagree, I think it was a bit of a flub. What I'm saying is, he desperately wanted the cup back. He had already established, twice in that scene, that he could get her to obey him if he said "please." He obviously did not want to let her know that he remembers his true identity. So why didn't he use the "please" trick again? She would have been compelled to give him the cup, and he would have kept his secret knowledge intact.

Then again, maybe he doesn't care whether she knows. He's been dancing around his true identity with her since episode 2.

Also? :) Regina still doesn't know that Emma is Snow's child; it seems the only people privy to that information right now are Henry, Emma and Snow, and the latter two don't really believe it.

So that's two aces in Gold's sleeve. And yeah. I definitely root for him. :-D

I think it's safe to assume that Gold has used his "please" power sparingly over the years to avoid raising the Queen's suspicions regarding his memories. If he'd chosen to use it to get back the cup, Regina would have known that he knew about the effect "please" had on her, thereby confirming that he remembers life before Storybrooke. Either way, she wins.

Yeah, Jane Espenson (the writer) pretty much made the same comment about that, so I was duly silenced on it! LOL

Hey! We must have the same taste in shows, because I think this is the third time or so I've run into you on another fandom comm.

He kind of is! I was actually speaking to someone just the other night about how Gold, Chance, and Guerrero should get together for drinks. A round of self-loathing and regrets for everyone!
