Goofs: When Henry is given the storybook in October 2011, he sees a picture of the scene with Geppetto, Jiminy Cricket and Pinocchio right before the Blue Fairy's arrival in the Season One episode "The Stranger." However, as seen in the Season One episodes "What Happened to Frederick" and "The Stranger," the story of Pinocchio being sent to the Land Without Magic along with Emma was not in the book until August added it several months later.

Also, in the Season Four episode "Unforgiven," Regina and Henry look at the same picture, and notice how the paper is different than the rest of the book, because this story was added by August.

"Selfless, Brave, and True" is a reference to Disney's Pinocchio, where the Blue Fairy says to Pinocchio, "Prove yourself brave, truthful and unselfish, and someday you will be a real boy."

In The Song In Your Heart, Jakob Davies had become too old to play Pinocchio, so instead the role was played by Jakob's younger brother Jack, who looks very much like him. Jack had never wanted to act but did this as a service to his brother, "to keep Pinocchio in the family".

Deleted scenes: August is featured in promo photos for "Hat Trick", his scenes were cut from the episode.

Among the material that was cut, was a segment where August arrives at Jefferson's mansion on his motorcycle, one where he is parked outside the mansion and is holding his helmet in his hands, one where he is standing outside the entrance to the manor and Jefferson is standing in the open doorway, and one where he is with Emma and Mary Margaret outside the mansion.

In Tougher Than The Rest, Emma comments on August's typewriter and says that she wasn't sure if the sound she heard was from a typewriter or a Tommy gun. This is one of the nicknames for the Thompson submachine gun, which is also known as the "Chicago typewriter", because the sound of a Tommy gun being fired in the distance resembles the sound of typing on a typewriter, and because the weapon was in popular use in Chicago during the 1920s.

In Best Laid Plans, August Booth names one man who held the position of Author as Walt. This is a direct reference to Walt Disney, the famed American cartoonist, animator, film producer, and the co-founder of The Walt Disney Company. August states that the job of the Author "goes back eons from the man who watched shadows dance across cave walls and developed an entire philosophy". This is a reference to the Greek philosopher Plato and his Allegory of the Cave. When August lists the previous Authors, he mentions "playwrights who tell tales in poetry". This is a reference to William Shakespeare, who used iambic pentameter in his plays and sonnets.
