Queen Regina needs pills and therapy

So, my friend and i were getting into a show discussion...one of those nerdy things...y'know..and we got into how we think the queen is just..boring...and i said..that i think she is just a "emo little b*tch who just needs a therapist and some pills" because she comes off to me (in her queen role)...like some teenager  who lost her bf to some other cheerleader or something and now "woe is me boo hoo!"

The disney movie version...i think the queen was all pissed off that there would be someone more fair than she was...so..being dethroned like that sent her into a tizzy...

So...being that we do not know yet WHAT it was that snow white did to the evil queen regina...Why don't we use this post to discuss what we THINK she did...(based off the disney movie or not...)...and also discuss her character. what we like or don't like...lets engage in some friendly debate and discussion...cross minds...and maybe meet an interesting person who shares your view...

maybe brownie points if someone posts a guess and it turns out later that said user was RIGHT! XD

You know, i never thought of that...i forgot that in the disney movie..daddy dearest dies...so it does make sense...now the question is, WHAT did snow do? my first impression was that the queen just married into the riches and royalty...and didn't really love her husband...you know..a trophy wife...but looking at THIS aspect...and that "the thing i loved most is gone forever"...

Maybe snow had this hate relationship with her dad once he married a new mom...and because he re-married...she hated him for it because it was like he went away or something...or..umm...hmm...

and in the orignial..yes...holy shit..that IS creepy that the father just sits and twiddles his thumbs and lets his wife try to commit murder..

Yup I agree with ashymolassy. I believe that the Evil Queen truly loved Snow's father and that Snow probably did something that got him killed, hence why she hates Snow so much. It's the only theory I can think about after Snow acknowledged that she ruined the EQ's life.

Maybe the Queen lost a child and somehow, Snow had something to do with it. I have a theory that these two were friends first. Probably really close. Maybe more like step-sisters. We've seen EQ's father and not once was it implied that he was also Snow's dad. So, maybe step-sisters or just really close friends. Or if, they follow the original fairytales, EQ marries Snow's dad, but not for love. An arranged marriage, maybe? Just like James and Kathryn's (by the way, this is out of topic, but if Charming was playing the role of his twin brother, does that mean his name isn't really James?).

Anyway, it's likely that the EQ before she became the EQ, was the more passive of the two. The more timid counterpart to Snow's fiestiness. And perhaps the one that believed in the power of love, family and happy endings more than Snow did.

Just speculations, though. I do hope they continue making Regina into a more layered villain as opposed to being the villain for the sake of being the villain. Keeps things interesting. :)

But Snow doesn't act like she's overly burdened with guilt, as I think most people would if they did something that got their father killed. Even if it were an accident, I'd think that would have affected her deeply.

Actually, I'm not sure. In the second episode, Malificent said that the Queen was Snow White's age when she was to be married. I'm guessing Snow White is early 20s whilst the Queen is mid-thirties so maybe a 15 year gap. This would imply that Snow White was five or so when the Queen lost her fiance somehow. She never refered to the queen as a stepmother because if the Queen did marry her love and that love was Snow White's father, then who did she NOT get married to?

Also, I don't really think Snow White has direct involvement in what caused the Queen's anger, I think she just became the figure to blame and the source of the Queen's anger.

I was going to say that the thing she loves most is her vanity and that Snow White and her aren't even related (not even by marriage). It seems that they don't have an ounce of relation from what I gather.

But what you said makes a lot of sense too!! Maybe she did love her new husband but hated his "attachment" to Snow White. Perhaps he died trying to save her from something (she seems adventurous). Or maybe he just died and because the Queen hated Snow she just blames her, and because Snow loved her father, maybe she blames herself too...

I agree with you. It doesn't seem like the EQ and Snow have a direct relation, besides the whole "ruined the EQ life" deal.

And Snow doesn't seem that bothered by "ruining her life". Just that EQ blames her for. If Snow had killed her father, whether they were on good relations or not, she'd be upset about and that would make her sort of evil (which would be too far from her pure white snow portrayal).

We'll have to see what their connect is. Maybe her dad just died, and so the Queen couldn't marry him and be the "trophy wife". And because there was a scapegoat to blame (who was also prettier then her) she blamed Snow White.

I actually feel kinda sorry for the EQ, I don't consider her really "evil" just misunderstood. She is very determined to get her vengeance. That's what I like about the character - the despair and anger it's not only about "being evil" as we saw in episode 2. I also got the impression that Rumpelstizkin kinda provoked her to fulfill the dark curse.
The sneak peeks for todays episode look rather interesting - (spoiler start) now we know for sure that the Evil Queen was married to Snows father and he died - but I can imagine that there'll be a lot more to that story and maybe the person the EQ loved wasn't Snows father. I kinda have the feeling that there's another evil power (Rumpelstilzkin?) that led the EQ to the assumption of Snow White runing her life.

Purely Speculation... but...

Given that Regina is the Miller's daughter (grain merchant's daughter, mayhap?), I think the story goes something vaguely like this...

The Miller (Henry Mills, natch) falsely brags about how his daughter can spin straw into gold to get attention and accolades. The king hears this and imprisons the daughter (Regina) until she can spin a room of straw into gold. Rumplestiltskin does it for her the first night, and the second, but by the third demands that she promise him her firstborn as his price. Desperate to save her life (in some versions, the king is threatening her life and that of her father, in others she has fallen for the king and wants him to love her... depending where this show wants to go, but I would say she loved the king and wanted his love in return), she agrees. The king falls for the girl who spun him rooms full of gold, they marry and have a heir. Rumplestiltskin comes for his firstborn... Regina manages to get out of the deal by guessing his name...

My guess? Snow (being the king's daughter by earlier marriage) was the one who told the king that Regina tricked her way into whole deal and that she could never spin straw into gold. This cost Regina the King's love... (and possibly the life of her child? Through some accident/mishap?)

Ergo... Snow cost Regina her chance at happiness/love/everything. Snow accepts this blame, but it doesn't anger her or cause her the emotion you would expect in something that would cost her father's life.
