*really* not liking how much Aurora and Mulan are hanging back all the time, letting Snow and Emma get all the cameratime....then again, if Hook's going to kill someone, it'll be someone in arm's-reach.

Looks like they're pushing Emma/Hook here. So, let's see: If Emma's baby-daddy is Rumple's son, as most of us are thinking, and Hook is the man who took Rumple's wife, then that makes them . . . ow, my head is starting to hurt.

Feeling pretty confident that Henry's dad is NOT Baelfire. He'd remember something, *anything*. Doesn't seem likely to me after this.

Yeah I don't believe Baelfire is the father. He really would have remembered the land and all of that. He was just a regular guy... Geez... August. I don't know what to feel. Henry's dad really did love her.

I don't know if it was right to exclude him, but then again Emma might have never cared to save everyone because she'd be living her happily ever after.

All I can say is, I can't wait till Emma finds out what happened so that she can finally start to trust again.

I LOVE that we finally got some of Emma's backstory. It was nice to see that Neal truly loved her and was doing what he thought was best. Whatever August had in that box put the fear of God into Neal. But August did at least keep his promise to Neal so that was something. I'm beginning to wonder about August. Oh, and I love that Emma kept the swan pendant from the key chain. Also, it was nice to see her more open and trusting.

Hook is so deliciously bad! (He reminds me a bit of House....never a bad thing.) He's gonna be pissed when he catches up with Emma. I can't wait!!

I thought it was interesting that Henry and Aurora had the same nightmare.

I liked Jorge Garcia as the giant and I hope they bring him back. He and Jennifer Morrison were on How I Met Your Mother together.

Unless whatever August had in that box was something from their land, and August somehow knew he was from there and would recognize it? Bae wouldn't necessarily want to offer up his identity to August (admitting to being Rumple's son and all), but it would make sense as to why he didn't freak out or disbelieve what August had to say about the curse, etc.

Well, Snow and Emma are the main stars of the show so it makes sense that they get more screentime than guest stars.

I do agree that those ladies could kick Hook's ass in a flat second. And knowing Hook, he'd love every minute of it.

I spent most of this episode dreading the reveal that Neal would be a magical person (particularly Bae). I hate that idea. I really wanted Henry's father to just be an ordinary guy. Of course, I also wanted him to be a bad person who betrayed Emma. But my first wish outweighed the second, and so I was flying high when the episode ended, because Neal seemed to be a non-magical, ordinary human being from Earth. So happy about that. Then I read it was probably a fake name and people still think he's Bae and that's made me less happy.

August has to be the worst protector ever. He's found Emma and what does he do? Send away the only person she loves and get her thrown in jail. Make her betrayed and cynical and generally unhappy for the next 11 years. For no discernible reason, so far as I can tell, since I can't see why (from August's point of view) Emma can't break the curse with Neal by her side. Then, he doesn't show her his magic-in-the-box (which he has no reason to think would not convince her, so far as we know) after she gets out jail. Doesn't tell her about the curse and her parents and prepare her for what's ahead, but instead goes off to Phuket. And to top it all off, August may well have stolen the 20 thousand dollars she was supposed to get.

Does anyone else get the impression (mostly from "Broken" than Neal spent the next 11 years just existing, day-to-day, and not living or anything? Just waiting? I'm not sure. It's just that he seemed to resigned and and worn down in "Broken" to me.

Loved Emma not trusting Hook. Was glad for how the giant turned out (Jack has always come off as a bad guy in that story to me). Absolutely loved Emma telling Mulan to cut down the beanstalk after 10 hours. Wonderful.

Aurora and Henry having the same dream is very intriguing. No idea what to make of it, though.

Wonderful Charming/Henry moment with the nightmare. We all knew he was going to light a candle, of course, but it was lovely when he did.

August, I'm annoyed with. If he had such good proof, why didn't he show it to Emma so that she could be convinced? Then he could tell her about the curse and that she was the one that could break it. I don't understand why August doesn't think she could break the curse with Neal at her side - I feel like I'm missing something there. It's not like Neal dragged her into a life of crime - she was a thief before she met him, and Neal was the one that wanted to stop the Bonnie-and-Clyde thing while Emma was fine to keep it up. And why, oh why, did Emma need to go to jail? And why wasn't that tip anonymous - did August want her to think herself betrayed? And did August keep the money?

I don't care so much about Emma learning what happened - all those years aren't erased by learning the truth, and I don't care enough about her relationship with August for that to be an issue. But I'm dying for Neal to learn about Henry. On-screen, and preferably with Henry present. That should be fun. And then, of course, Henry will learn that Emma lied to him...no idea how that'll play out.

So August is a terrible protector. Considering his background and experiences, why is that surprising? Why on earth did anyone expect August to be a great protector in the first place? And Neal didn't have to let Emma take the rap for those watches.

I never understood the hostility toward Aurora and Mulan. One, they didn't hang back and act as background in this episode. And they did nothing wrong to produce this dislike toward them. Especially in this episode.

It wasn't a bad episode, but to be honest, I didn't find Emma's past with Neal all that compelling. Come to think of it, I didn't find Neal all that compelling. It's clear that Neal's appearance in the Season 2 opener is a sign that he and Emma will reunite, thanks to August's postcard. So much for an Emma/Hook ship. I think that Emma just made herself another enemy. Why do Aurora and Henry have a connection?

This episode was fun to watch as well as revealing. Hook seemed genuinely upset when Emma still didn't trust him, I wonder if he is actually fond of her. Nice little love triangle they might put in there. Though honestly hook is nothing but a player to me while Neil is her "true love".

I suppose my speculations are quite the minority around these parts but I feel like August was an awesome protector. He isn't saving her, just making her able o complete her destiny. I don't think August knows anything about Neil but when he asked him "do you believe in magic". I was hook line an sinker 100% sure he was Bea. Because he didn't say "haha your kidding right?" like a normal person and he didn't say "yes!" like a crazy person. He was extremely apprehensive, extremely guarded about "magic". He said "I take it you do?"

He gave nothing away about his stance on something as trivial (in our world) as magic. When he looked in the box he was nervous and upset by what he saw but not scared, flabbergasted or even questioning, he was just matter of fact.

Bea knows magic. He also hates it!! It changed his father and destroyed his family. He would want nothing more than to just be a simply ordinary person in our world.

My husband agreed but he's felt it was Bea since day 1.

That's how I feel about it. Why would he gladly give away anything he knew about magic to a stranger wanting to take his love away? Not only from a "I don't know you" perspective but also a I hate my past and my father perspective.

Is there a ship name for Emma/Neal yet? We know if he is a fairy tale character at all, much less which one he is. All I can come up with is 'Stolen Swan' or 'Swan Thief' but I don't think they're that good. Ideas?

So I just wanted to be sure about one thing: Emma leaving Hook detained with the giant for ten hours means that he can't go to Storybrook with them and so has no sure way of getting there? I'm guessing he'll turn to Corra for help, but will she still help him?

Unless it was Cora's plan all along for him to persuade them into helping to find the compass. She'll be peeved that they have it and not him but she'll fix it.

I'm pretty sure Hook just doesn't about face, like that. Especially since his revenge for Milah is all consuming of him. He's just playing that rough and tumble guy to get the affection of Emma. Maybe he believed it himself, maybe not. But if Emma hadn't played him like that, we all know he would have to her! :) (imo)

Yes, Henry was called 10 in both the first and second episodes, and probably several other times. The actor is 12 now.

well, we can make some educated guesses - if it's from FTL, then it had to have been small enough to fit in August's pockets (in which case, why use a large box?)

if not for the fact that August had just run after Neal and grabbed him with both hands, I would've guessed the box held a wooden hand. (ooh - it has his foot, and August was using a prosthetic?)

I suspect if Emma or Snow had gone this many episodes with so little development or backstory, lots of people would feel the same way about them.

I do tend to agree, but that doesn't change that I'm not that interested. I've said before (though, not here, I think) that I think they were done a disservice in how they were introduced. In the premiere I cared about the Charming family reunion, I cared about magic being back, I cared about all those minor characters from the first season getting their memories back and I wanted to see them happy. I did not care about three new characters I'd never seen before. So I was not going to get invested with them, latch on to them as potentially interesting, when all I was thinking was "get back to the people I know." And they've not been developed since then.

I understand the necessity of the method of introduction, as it fit the plot and gave the shocking ending. But I don't think it did much for Mulan and Aurora.

Edited to add: I do hope they don't add any more major characters this season (possible exception if August got whatever is in the box from someone we don't know yet). I don't want time spread out more thinly. I'll be glad when Snow and Emma get home if it means we can go back to just two settings (past and present) instead of three. I also hope the cast doesn't just expand every season. As I said, too many times/places/characters means plot/screen-time/character development spread out too thinly for my taste. Also furthers the likelihood of time moving more slowly, and they have a kid actor.

So the sleeping curse causes awful nightmares but snow says they go away. I wonder if it's not a side effect but what else could it be... Also aurora when she described it said "he was looking at me" so there was a man in the room with her but when Henry describes it he says "she". There's no way the writers did that on accident.

I have a hunch that it's someone you long for. So aurora would see Philip and Henry would see Emma.

when Henry described his dream, I got a mental image of two people in opposite corners of a square room - Aurora seeing Henry, and Henry seeing Aurora.
