The previews walk again...

...even after so much turkey over the holidays...

I saw the previews for this new episode...and I thought "wait, how?"

reason: The village of survivors (formerly led by the illusion we called Lancelot) is brought back from the dead...and their reviving looks distinctly like zombies.

Question is - are they the brain-seeking killer zombies of the last decade? or are they the black-and-white movie zombies who could work a plantation as well as anyone else (just without free will) ? or are they the legends of the zombi of Haiti?

or was the preview a red herring to trick us all?

We have had flesh eating zombies in modern culture since 1968 when Night of the Living Dead came out. But flesh eating dead/undead/monsters have been a popular myth in many cultures. They just went by different names.

But I am hoping for good ol' people-munching slow-walking zombies on OUaT since they are the best kind.

Knowing the writers of OUAT, I would venture to say that perhaps they're not the kind of zombies that we've encountered before? I would think they'd throw in something new or different, probably something magical about them to make them special.
Of course this is all just speculation, we'll have to wait to see the episode itself to see if there even are any "zombies."

Actually I'm more like "They preach magic CANNOT bring back the dead...so are they just ignoring their own cannon and going 'know what? Zombies!'?"

Exactly! Because, though they 'brought Daniel back' he obviously wasn't the same. He did have some level of self-control though, which is great for the plot but confusing wrt their established canon.

I'm speculating that Cora is manipulating the corpses kind of like Inferi from HP? Literally no free will of their own, just 'alive' to perform a task. It makes more sense to me that she uses them against Team Warrior Princesses as obstacles than as the flesh-eating variety of zombies, though it's Cora (and the writers of OUAT) so honestly, anything goes.

Oh, please, I hope there are no zombies. This was supposed to be a show about fairytales! It's turning more and more into True Blood! So far, except for "The Crocodile," I'm finding this season severely disappointing.

So I heard somewhere that there were supposed to be TWO episodes on tonight. Did I hear wrongly? I just see the regular Sunday lineup on my TV' schedule.

So far, it seems to me like Aurora and Mulan are extraneous characters they haven't figured out what to do with yet. Cora is a good and relevant addition, but otherwise, whatever happened to Archie and August and Gepetto and the seven Dwarfs? They need to stop introducing new characters while ignoring the existing ones.

The way I see it Cora isn't so much as "bringing back the dead" as she is raising and manipulating their corpses for her own ends.

Which is par for the course with her.

I'm just going to leave this thought here, which occurred to me while reading this post and how everyone's saying that they established that magic can't bring back the dead:

Just because the characters say it's true, doesn't mean it is. It could just mean that no one who has tried has ever succeed, and so everyone believes that it's not possible. Or, conversely, it could mean that you can't bring them back whole and as they used to be. Thus, zombies, because as we keep hearing "Magic always comes with a price."

And seriously, between this and the Walking Dead, I just know what's going to be in my nightmares tonight.

Well, obviously I was wrong about the zombies in the episode, but that's still my personal head-canon regarding Daniel.

I think the zombies in this bit are just going to be lifeless beings that Cora gives a task to. Probably not flesh eating, but they'll probably attack the girls.
