Heart of Darkness Questions

As usual, I have a few discussion points and questions for the latest episode.

1. Let's start with the end: who thinks Mary Margaret chose to escape from the cell and who thinks it was a fakeout/she was kidnapped? I can go either way (and if she is kidnapped later that doesn't mean she didn't leave on her own first); however, we didn't see her leave and that makes me think we didn't see it for a reason.

2. Kathryn. Well, she certainly looks dead doesn't she? But with no body I'm still not sure. I've seen enough tv to know that no body means the writers can wiggle out of it and DNA tests can be faked. The easiest way to do it would be to give a reference sample which matches the heart but is not Kathryn's DNA.

3. Now since Rumpel gave Snow a bow and arrow which always finds its target and would get her what she needs, how likely is it that he did a deal with Cupid at some point? It seems clear to me that a never-missing bow wouldn't miss even if someone got in front of it unless it hit exactly who it was supposed to.

4. Which makes you wonder why he sold Snow the love killing potion in the first place. He needed the deal to get her hair! And then he needed the deal with Charming to get his hair. (While carefully not letting them know he had or wanted both of their hairs.)

5. And then I wonder how many times he has tried this - to bottle love using the hair of two people in love. Perhaps the reason the curse was finally ready for him to sell was that he finally got the love potion. He says he has never been able to make the potion so this is his first time succeeding. Without that he doesn't have the control he needs? Doesn't have the curse breaker all set to go? Some other reason?

6. I'm also seriously in awe of both his and Regina's timing. Once again he shows up exactly at the right time to offer his legal services to Mary Margaret. How do they do it? No one can be that good at being the right place at the right time just by luck. Perhaps they have an in with the writers? :)

7. We finally got an answer as to how Gold got free! Did it surprise anyone though? He owns the town - I always figured he used his influence in town to persuade a judge to let him off. This was the right time to bring it up, however, as it was relevant in his discussion with Mary Margaret. Influence is exactly what she needs right now.

8. Did we finally see a crack in Emma's certainty about the nature of fairytales and Henry's book this episode? Maybe a small one though it was more a crack in her certainty that Storybrooke is a basically normal, if a bit odd, town. Finding out the Mayor has a key to everyone's house is definitely more than a bit odd.

9. At the very least she has been convinced that she can't go it alone and win against Regina. \o/ Not that I think Mr. Gold has her best interests at heart so it may bite her in the end (and likely will in some way she never anticipated) but Mary Margaret didn't stand a chance without him.

10. Lastly, is Regina the one who is setting up Mary Margaret? I've been thinking it is - heart in a box is her MO after all - but I have become suspicious of Mr. Gold. Both of them have something to gain by framing Mary Margaret. Regina gets to watch Mary suffer at the very least and maybe get convicted, but if not people will still be wondering about her and whether she really did it. While Gold, well, he gets Emma in his shop willing to go as far as it takes or even farther (love the callback to episode 2 BTW), as well as looking like a really good guy defending Mary pro bono. And who would suspect someone of framing the framer?

1. I'm going to go with kidnapped. Do we think Regina (I'm still sticking with Regina is framing her) somehow got the key into the cell? She's the one with all the keys, right?

2. Where exactly does one go for DNA tests in Storybrooke? I'm going to say that Kathryn is alive and Regina has swapped out the control DNA source - she'd be the one facilitating this I think rather than David - using her 'friendship' with Kathryn as basis.

3. Love it, would love to see some mythologicals added to the mix.

4. I kind of wanted him to do something evil with the hair - it's such a personal item - but I'm really intrigued by what's up with what he's actually doing so I'll forgive. :-)

6. Hee!

7. I'm so glad they addressed him getting himself off, and was surprised how much I wasn't turned off by the twist that he's a lawyer, when I heard that he was going to defend MM I rolled my eyes a little - how convenient. I'm quite pleased with this now.

8. Yes, definite cracking going on in Emma. BTW - 'She hates Snow White isn't going to cut it in court - or similar - great line.

9. I'm so conflicted on Gold - at the moment I think he's overwhelmingly sympathetic - Curse, baby trafficking, cinderizing Cindy's fairy and all. I'm thinking I have to be headed for a fall, though, if I buy into it. Evil! I keep reminding myself he's Evil!

10. Wouldn't it be great if it was Gold framing Regina for framing MM? Using her heart in a box trick and eventually bringing it all around to her? New favorite theory!

1. Keys to me still seem pure Regina. She has the keys connected with the crypt where she keeps the hearts, and now she apparently has keys to every door in town - and I was sitting there looking at Emma's keyhole, and it looked just like a little circular hole, and I'm thinking - what the heck sort of key fits in there? Couldn't they get a cool-looking old key type lock?

4. Yes, Regina is evil for evil's sake, Rumpel is in it for the power.

7. Yea! Screen time equals happy time.

9. How evil is he? This is really what I'm stuck on. They tell us he's evil. Then they give us all this shmoop. Is it a bluff or a double bluff?

Granted on everything - and honestly hoping we get a finale which inspires all sorts of discussion - let's talk about fairy tales! What comes next?

1. For me, it seems a little convienent. The writers of this show love to trick people into thinking one thing when its something else. The audience can see what is clearly The Evil Queen's MO but what if someone is framing her as well? There is only one other person that knows she is the Evil Queen and knew about her keys and made a point about it: The Stranger. LOL random little theory but I just think Regina is too obvious

2. This could go either way. I'm not sure really.

3. Rumplestiltskin always knows what he is doing and knew that James would come by to save Snow White. It was always going to hit James.

4. My random little theory about this - notice how the two hair strands look similar to a DNA helix. What if that is the way to end the curse? What if this is Emma?

5. Exactly. He knew true love would break the spell and a child is the ultimate symbol of love really. Once again: Emma

6. Mr Gold cannot resist his Rumplestiltskin instincts :D

8. The Stranger did say that Emma needed evidence and it just so happened that Henry finds out about the keys which is mentioned in the book. This is why I have a feeling the Stranger's motives are on the gray side.

9. My main theory about Rumplestiltskin is that he is not evil. Notice how, even though his solutions mess things up, there is always a happy ending. Through turning a kid's parent into dolls, Jiminy ends up being what he's always wanted to be. Same with giving Snow the bow and arrow, she would end up being saved and reminded of her love for James and vice versa. He is an enemy of The Evil Queen but I don't really think he's truly evil, just likes to appear that way for his own purposes.

10. I don't think its either just because having one of the two 'evil' protagnisists of the show as the killer seems far too obvious. Like I said, the writers love their twists and were famous for it in LOST so i'm just not sure if its either.

Yes - here is the answer to why he wants Emma's name. This is the final kiss which sets the curse in motion.

1. Right now, I'm going to say MM was kidnapped. I'm by no means 100% certain she didn't leave of her own accord, but I think that most likely she didn't. I'll be fine however the show goes on this point.

2. I honestly don't think Kathryn's dead. No body and the identification method is unreliable considering what town they are in.

7. I thought that was a brilliant explanation for Gold's release - so very indicative of his level of power and of the general level of cowardice/corruption in Storybrooke.

8. Yes. Hands down my favorite moment of the episode was Emma's face when she realized that key worked in Mary Margaret's door. I mean, the implications are huge. Really looking forward to follow-up there.

10. I'm not sure. Regina is most likely, but since we haven't actually *seen* it done, we can't be sure. Also, I want to know how David was made to forget - if magic was used, that has huge implications. We've not yet had any solid evidence of the ability to enact new magic in Storybrooke.

Interesting points, all of them! Mostly I'm posting just to say thank you for #5 -- you've given me an idea for my fic! :P

Hee hee!

Just so you know, I have now used the idea that the bow and arrow was Cupid's in my fanfic, but I am giving you credit. My muse just wouldn't let that idea go, so I ran with it. It's now pretty much the basis for my whole plot, lol.

Thanks for the inspiration! :D
