It was indeed, but I don't hear people, both characters and fans, lashing him nearly as much for that moment as for the crippling. There were many times he showed courage before he got his magic, but sadly, he was never given the credit he should have been. Can you think of any father who did as much for his child as Rumpel did? I mean, part of him even wanted the magic at first not so much for himself as for his son.
