I can't see her outright not caring if children die, not with her over-attachment to Henry and attempts to have those kids stay with her, etc.
Well, she certainly didn't care that much - she sent numerous children to the blind witch where they were eaten! She had a goal, and if kids had to die for her to accomplish it, then so be it - always more kids, I guess. Not to mention her *punishing* the children for rejecting her - not exactly a caring gesture.

Also, I know the show didn't go with that opening, but in Hansel and Gretl they're left in the woods because their parents can no longer afford to feed them (surprised the show didn't go that dark, tbh). So the dad of the year schtick with not!Krycek isn't set in stone for me.
Yeah, I would not have wanted them to want to go back to a father like that. But in the show, he was taken from them and frantic with worry for them (enough to *demand* release from the Evil Queen - with her reputation, that seems dangerous). We saw nothing to indicate he was a bad father, and several indications he was a good one.
